How do I find the MAD (Mean Absolute Deviation) in a data set?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

find the average of the set and instead of squaring, take the absolute value of the differences i believe

Is there any other way to explain?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\Large \sum_{i=1}^n \frac{|x_i-\mu|}{n}\] \[\Large \frac 1n \sum_{i=1}^n |x_i-\mu|\]

There's an easier way, I wrote it somewhere in my notes. Thanks anyway. I'll give you a medal.
