area of a square = length x length square units so l^2 = 25 square cm or l = 5 cm now each triangle is right angled triangle with sides 5 cm so the hypotenuse can be found by pythagoras theorem hypotenuse = sqrt [ base^2+ perpendicular ^2] or h = sqrt [5^2+5^2]

a right angled triangle has 3 sides base, perpendicular and hypotenuse in this case base= perpendicular and they are sides of the same square !!
