Suppose you rent a limousine for a formal reception. The bill for the evening is $53.00. A tax of 6% will be added, and you want to tip the chauffeur 20% for excellent driving. How much will you pay in total? $63.60 $66.78 $13.78 $10.60

OpenStudy (bibby):

The tax is applied to the 53 to get the final total. So. 53*.06 = the tax 53 * .20 = the tip 53 + tax + tip = final amount

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Estimate a 20% tip for a meal that cost $42.50 $4.20 $8.50 $2.00 $14.50

OpenStudy (bibby):

multiply 42 by .2 You get 8.40. That's a close enough estimation for the sake of the choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for number one which one is it out of the multiple choices

OpenStudy (bibby):

Get a damn calculator. Add up 53+3.18+10.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you said -damn-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But thanx though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it helped

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30% of what number is 60? 180 220 200 150

OpenStudy (bibby):

I'm 20. we get to say bad words when we become the big boys.

OpenStudy (bibby):

What is 30% in decimal form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.30

OpenStudy (bibby):

exactly. Now remember what of means in word problems. 30% (0.30) of some number is (=) 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.

OpenStudy (bibby):

I don't underrstand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does ''of some number is'' means anyway big boy??

OpenStudy (bibby):

I'm not big. I'm 3'5 and weigh 90. Say that to my face, yo. Anyhow, some number means x. It means some variable that we want to find.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but then why you said welcome to the big boys??

OpenStudy (bibby):

I said that when you become a big boy like me you get to say damn.

OpenStudy (bibby):

we must focus on the math my friend

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when i multiply 0.30 with 60 it gave me 18 soooo i think my answer go to be 180

OpenStudy (bibby):

That doesn't make any sense. 30% of what number is 60? .30 * x = 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i have to take 60 and divided by .30 to find what x represents?

OpenStudy (bibby):

exactly. if you don't have a calculator .3 = 3/10 dividing by 3/10 -> you multiply by the reciprocal 60*(10/3) = 600/3 = 200

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A new law requires that 12% of an individual's income be invested in the stock market. Your accounts show that you need to put $420 in the stock market this year. How much did you earn this year?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (bibby):

I don't know what you're talking about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=.=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

btw im only 17 D:

OpenStudy (bibby):

I'm 20 D:. Anyhow A new law requires that 12% of an individual's income be invested in the stock market. Your accounts show that you need to put $420 in the stock market this year. How much did you earn this year?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brb

OpenStudy (bibby):

12% = 0.12 It says that 12% * (the income) = [amount deposited] Which of these variables are known? Which is the unknown?

OpenStudy (bibby):

k lemme rewrite it using the words in the question .12 * [earned this year] = [amount invested in stock market this year]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it :'D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thxxxx XP

Btw 3500 - 12% is 420 :/ I was playing with the calculator

OpenStudy (bibby):

if you would like to see what I was trying to do here: .12 * [earned this year] = [amount invested in stock market this year] .12 * [??????] = 450 ????????? = 450/.12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

XD

OpenStudy (bibby):

I feel like you aren't taking my math seriously. I can't do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why are you

OpenStudy (anonymous):
