2x^3 X 3x^2 X 2y ? Steps?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Pretty please use (*) to indicate multiplication, not (X).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

\[2x ^{3}*3x ^{2}*2y\]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Are you certain that this is what you want to calculate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmale Steps?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You might try re-writing the problem like this:\[[2*3*2]*[x ^{3}x ^{2}][y]\] Try evaluating that, please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know how! thats why im asking!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

what's 2 times 3? what's (2 times 3) times 2?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Important rule of exponents: \[x ^{a}x ^{b}=x ^{a+b}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cant you just help me? like tell me how to do these steps? BTW the way you're writing it is way more confusing

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'm sorry you find this confusing. however, if you truly want to understand and learn this math, you'll need to understand and learn the vocabulary that goes with it. Look back to "important rule of exponents," above. This says: x raised to the power a times x raised to the power b equals x raised to the power a plus b. You really do need to know this rule. Thus,

OpenStudy (mathmale):

\[x ^{2}x ^{3}=x ^{2+3}=x ^{5}\]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'm sure you can calculate 2*3*2 on your own. Good luck!
