OpenStudy (mathmale):

Aren't you asking, "What is the solution to 32+y=75? Think: What are you being asked to do here? How have you done similar problems in the past?

OpenStudy (justnick09):

43

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

subtract 32 from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, just want the answer and how it was done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add '-32' to each side of the equation. 32 + -32 + y = 75 + -32 Combine like terms: 32 + -32 = 0 0 + y = 75 + -32 y = 75 + -32 Combine like terms: 75 + -32 = 43 y = 43

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

32 + y = 75 -- subtract 32 from both sides 32 - 32 + y = 75 - 32 -- combine like terms y = 75 - 32 y = 43

Thanks for the thorough information.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I prefer texaschic's approach: Isolate y by subtracting 32 from both sides. The answer is important, but it's much more important that y ou know how to find it.
