Does anyone know whow to find wich of the graphs of these equations has no x-intercepts? a)6x^2+2x-5=0 b)4x^2-3x+1=0 c)4x^2-7x+3=0 d)x^2+8x-3 The answer is b, but I don't know how to find it

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The one whose discriminant is negative indicating 2 complex roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, I-I don't understand what u mean cause you please dumb it down for me? sorry

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The discriminant tells you the nature of the roots of a quadratic equation. The roots are the x intercepts. The discriminant is b^2-4ac. If it is 0, there is 1 real root and therefore 1 x intercept If it is positive, there are 2 real roots and therefore 2 x intercepts It it is negative, there are no real roots and therefore 0 x intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait how u know if it's negeative? use the quadratic equation to find the roots?
