I think gorge=valley and they are caused by erosion from water. I'd go for gouge if fau is not it. Idk what fau is though. Still looking.

Ahhh I was thinking that. Fault then. In geology, a fault is a planar fracture or discontinuity in a volume of rock, across which there has been significant displacement along the fractures as a result of earth movement.
