Probably the easiest to answer is the first, contrasting current urban conditions with what people imagine it would be like to live in the wild with nature.

oh yea i agree! I understand why humans want a deeper relationship with nature and how it is still like that today but i'm not sure how it is similiar

Similar today and in the past that something very different is thought automatically better ["the grass is always greener on the other side"].

Different in that the conditions of life in the Renaissance were so much more primitive than ours are now.

Another factor back then was the fear of war and crime that we have less of today. If you are away from civilization, you avoid war and crime. We fear war less now, generally, and we fear crime more or les depending on where in the nation we live.

Perhaps getting food seemed easier in fields and forests than in the cities.. Now we go to the grocery store.
