This question I legitimately actually need help on.

Two athletes, Jack and Jill, invite you invite you to participate in a 5K run with several hills. One hill can be represented by the function f(x) = 2x2 + 5. Another hill can be represented by the function g(x) = 2x2 - 3x + 4. Describe to Jack and Jill, using complete sentences, which of the operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, will result in the largest degree function, and which operation will result in the smallest degree function.

@@mathstudent55 would you possibly know how to do this?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

multiplication gives you the largest degree... 2x^2 * 2x^2 = and division gives the smallest degree..

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

(2x^2-3x+4)(2x^2+5) Use distributive property 4x^4 + 10x^2 - 6x^3 - 15x + 8x^2 + 20 Combine like terms (10x^2 and 8x^2) 4x^4+ 18x^2 - 6x^3 - 15x + 20 Add the exponents. This has a degree function of 10
