Use front-end estimation to add 495 + 650 + 875. Indicate the three digits that you will add first 3 4 5 6 7 8
2020
THATS THE ANSWER
The point of this problem is not to calculate an exact answer, but rather to ESTIMATE what the sum will be. Given 495, 650 and 875, the trick is to round off each of these to the nearest 100: 495 is roughly 500, 650 is roughly 700, and 875 is roughly 900. Add up 500, 700 and 900 and you'll have your "estimation," not an "answer."
So, "the three digits you'd add first" are 5, 7 and 9.
i am confuse
Ask questions, please, so that I could help you overcome your confusion. My question for you would be: what does "estimation" mean in math?
To make an educated guess. for instances if you were asked to estimate half of 1426 you would round down to to 140 and half that which is much easier
Right, round down to 1400 and mentally divide 1400 by 2. You seem to grasp this just fine. Why, then, do you feel confused?
i got 700
Yes, that's a good estimate if you were asked to estimate "half of 1426." Now, back to your math problem: Can you now follow the instructions and estimate the sum of those 3 given numbers? Pls review our previous discussion first.
yes
Are you OK now, or do y ou need further discussion?
so the answer is 5,7,8
Yes: You add those 3 numbers up and multiply the result by 100. Actually, I'd use the three numbers 5, 7 and 9; go back and re-read the problem and see whether or not that makes sense.
okay but then answers are 3 4 5 6 7 8
Suggestion: circle 3 digits that are closest, e. g., 5, 7 and 8.
so it 5, 7 and 8
I'd choose those myself. Remember, we're estimating here, not finding "exact answers."
okay thank you so much
