I just want to prove a problem that is just not right!!! People keep saying when they see someone, "oh, they are gay". Is that a problem? I'm not gay, but I support them. Because, they are just the same as us. People just treat them like they are aliens because of this difference. We need to stop it! I saw in the math chat today, someone had a picture of Justin Bieber's mug shot as their profile pic, and someone said "Bieber is so gay". We all know he is not, but they say that just as a saying. Well, I think that saying needs to end because someone could get hurt inside!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is an issue that needs to be solved, and I'm going to fight until the end to help stop this madness!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will offend some but not others it is just part of this messed up world that will never change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could report them though

OpenStudy (bibby):

Using gay as an insult is both immature and gay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but gay technically means happy so in reality y does it matter

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

It is a problem that sociologists and psychologists have looked at for some time. If you want to discuss it, the proper place is in Social Sciences. If you see specific incidences here, realize it is covered in the CoC in two places. Be Nice - I will stay positive, be friendly, and not mean Don't be offensive, inappropriate, or creepy! So avoid: Any form of racism, sexism, or any other prejudicial "isms". http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct Report those violations when you see them and list the reason why as it violates the be nice and no prejudice parts of the CoC.

OpenStudy (arabpride):

Well, the term 'gay' has really been used for people who are not 'straight', but this is a free country, and if people can't accept other people's choices here, to where can they turn then?? its just wrong, and it needs to come to an end....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, but asking people to stop calling other people gay, and using it as an insult isn't going to work. People have tried it many times before, and it doesn't change things. People will talk the way they want to, that won't change. It's just going to have to be ignored.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

That is a very uninformed and unrealistic point of view. Things change all the time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Things change all the time.. doesn't mean people are going to change their opinions about it.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Societal change is simply one of the slowest ones to happen. For example, they do not randomly lynch blacks in the USA any more. It took generations for that to change. It required lots of people talking about it and moving towards it to cause just that one change.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

things do change opinions change people that dont know how to raise children still have kids they develop their parents mind set boom there are more people that hate something no matter what it is racism what sex someone likes there will be people that are against something forever

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

This is a form of harassment due to someone's homosexuality, and it is not welcome here, so if you see this again, please do report it. We don't appreciate people insulting others for that, and this includes in images such as your avatar or drawings. There's not much we can do about it, people change if they want to or if they really get convinced. It can't be changed completely and probably never will, so we just have to resist them. It's both rude and immature, so just ignore and report it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mccormick i do not beleive that things will change to much until we are all dead things might eventually change but even then there will still be people that judge a book by the cover

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if its not one thing then its another @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

"but even then there will still be people that judge a book by the cover" This sum up almost everything there is needed to say. We can't change people entirely, and most are never convinced. Again, we just have to resist it or pretend like we don't care. Just continue on with your life and forget the people harassing you for you whatever, either if it's your race, religion, sexuality, age, physical appearance, health, family, etc. Just forget about it and continue shaping your own life, no need to let others do it for you.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes, many of us will be dead before some changes are seen. It is a very slow process. There are lots of factors, like will we nuke ourselves out of existence before we learn to accept others. But you start this sort of change by talking about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which were doing and nuking our self already almost happened it may again

OpenStudy (squirrels):

I'm sorry but if you're going trying to stop people from insulting others by using the word "gay" the internet isn't going to help. It think people use it more on hear then anywhere else. Also when people say Justin Bieber is gay, I don't think they meant it literally. People just use it towards him because he's a irresponsible little douche that has money so he thinks he can do anything without being punished.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Long Live the Gay People :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plus if your offended by someone you've never met and most likely never meet you probably shouldn't be on the internet it is full of people trying to anger you

OpenStudy (squirrels):

I don't hate gay people, I just hate their pride.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

@kag you're* :P

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Yes, I had to do that.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

:3

OpenStudy (arabpride):

Temptations, Temptations!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i was about to ask you if you really had to do that

OpenStudy (squirrels):

i love you

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Squirrels are mean, they throw nuts at my brother's car. :/

OpenStudy (squirrels):

well maybe your brother throws cars at our nuts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lmao

OpenStudy (arabpride):

@Squirrels LMFAO!!!! soo truu!!!

OpenStudy (taylor<3srin):

Okay everyone, as a bisexual woman I would like to give my opinion on this. While I agree with mango that it can hurt some people, it is also an opinion that these people are free to have. You cannot tell people that they can't have their own opinion if you do so, it makes you just as bad as them. Instead, tell them that yes you respect their opinion but do not agree with it, whatever they case may be. I could talk about this all day long, in the end people will be people, and people like believing they have choices.

OpenStudy (taylor<3srin):

I feel like I have to add one more thing, having an opinion and being a belligerent fool is different things. If you see somebody being ATTACKED on a chat or post etc. Then report it, but if they simply say "I don't agree with homosexuality." There really is no need to report them, because a majority of users tend to say "Hey man I reported you." This will escalate things because the person who stated their opinion will feel like they have done nothing wrong. 7/10 times you will both suspended if it gets too out of hand. It is best to leave discussion of sexuality out of chats, I know that I may talk with a few users about my partner here and there but, I am careful of whom I do it around. I don't want somebody to get offended or start an argument. Sexuality is a sensitive issue at this time, and it will remain that way for a little while longer.

OpenStudy (taylor<3srin):

Ignore typos please.

OpenStudy (squirrels):

too lazy to read

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Tay has talked to me about sexual things and I am a 3month old baby...she is not careful ._.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

troll

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Ahem... the troll limit has been met.
