it depends what kind of balance you're using. some measure weight through measuring the acceleration of the object due to gravity, others measure mass by comparing the object of interest to an object of known mass.

Well @aaronq the subject that i am studying is Science 800 and its talking bout masses and stuff like that.

i don't know what "science 800" is. I think both answers, mass and weight, are fine since you're not making measurements on other planets (and thus gravity is constant).
