Finding values help please. http://prntscr.com/2m7leo
what do you need to find the value of?
Triangle 1: A right-angle triangle. Use the Sine rule for finding "h" Sin = Opposite/Hypotenuse sin 60 = 3/h h = 3/sin 60 h = 3.464
For g would that be tan rule?
You can use the Sine rule for "g" also. sin 30 = g/h sin 30 = g/3.464 3.464 sin 30 = g g = 1.732
And yes, you can also use Tan rule for "g"
tan = opposite/adjacent tan 30 = g/3
Well does it make a difference what I write on the line? like should I write g=1.7 or g/3 does it make a difference? How do I choose which rule to use? like for I and J would I use SIN as well?
Sine = Opposite/Hypotenuse Cosine = Adjacent/Hypotenuse Tangent = Opposite/Adjacent You need to use these according to what the values you have in the Figure/Triangle. You can memorize this like: SOHCAHTOA Sin-Opposite-Hypotenuse-Cos-Adjacent-Hypotenuse-Tan-Opposite-Adjacent
And you need to write the final answer on the Line. It would be "g = 1.732" or if the question asks you to round it off, do that. If there are alot of numbers after the decimal, just write 2-3 numbers which come after the decimal.
Like if the answer is: 1.92839473682 You would write: 1.928 OR 1.92
Okay gotcha, so for I would you involve 30 and sq6 to find the outcome of I?
Exactly! :)
Now use: SOHCAHTOA Sine doesn't work here. Cosine doesn't work here. Tangent works here. Use tangent to fine "i" P.S: You would write it as "i" and not "I". Need to make sure if the alphabet is Capital or not!
Now try finding "i". If you need help, im waiting here.
Well if it's Opposite/Adjacent does it mean i is involved with sqrt6 or am I looking at it wrong?
Like i is opposite sq6 is adj
You will use the angle 30. The opposite to angle 30 is "i" and Adjacent is "sq6". Remember, Hypotenuse is the Opposite side of the 90 angle.
so I do 30/sq6?
nono, you do this: (the rule you are using sin/cos/tan) (angle) = (side 1)/(side 2) You are using the rule: tan The Angle is: 30 Side 1 (Opposite): i Side 2 (Adjacent): sq6
so is i 2?
If I'm looking for i all I have to work with is sq6 right? since we disregard angle 30
tan 30 = i/sq6
We will not completely disregard angle 30. It is essential. We put the angle in front of the rule we are using then an equals sign and after that the 2 sides divided.
That's the problem I have I don't know what to do with 1 when dividing?
I mean i
This would be easier to explain like this: sin (angle) = Opposite/Hypotenuse cos (angle) = Adjacent/Hypotenuse tan (angle) = Opposite/Adjacent Now we put in the values involved in finding "i": tan (angle) = Opposite/Adjacent tan (30) = i/sq6 sq6 * tan (30) = i (the sq6 is taken to the other side of equals sign, it is being divided on the right side, when taken to the left side, it will multiply with whatever it is there) [USE CALCULATOR] 1.4142 = i
get it?
Lol I'm trying and I sound like a broken record but I don't know what you plugged into a calculator to get that outcome. So multiply it with the given 30?
If i could take a picture of my calculator... :P Wait a second...
There...
OHHHH wow okay, I need to buy one of those for home the school gives us them for class only :c
Ask for a "Scientific Calculator"
That makes so much more sense now lol
Thank you for helping me lol must have been annoying, I appreciate you taking the time to show me how to do it
Get this calculator:
Without these, you CANNOT do Sin/Cos/Tan rules...
You're Welcome! Anytime!! :) P.S: You are WAY better than most of the people I've helped.
So, I should probably solve the "i" and "j" for you before I leave...
you don't have to, no obligation
I'll do it anyways, bored and this is easy so... :D For "i": tan (angle) = Opposite/Adjacent tan (30) = i/sq6 sq6 * tan (30) = i i = 1.414213562 i = 1.414 For "j": sin (angle) = Opposite/Hypotenuse sin (45) = i/j sin (45) = 1.414/j j = 1.414/sin (45) j = 1.999697977 j = 1.999 OR Round off: j = 2
Whoa, I appreciate the gesture! Better than showing up in class saying I didn't have the calc :p you're a lifesaver thank you so much!
Like I said, Anytime! ^^ Hardly took a Minute! P.S: Don't tell in Class that you didn't have a Calculator because they will ask how did you do the Question then xD
LOL yeah I didn't think of that :p, good call. Okidokie I'm off to go to tutoring, thanks once more can't thank you enough!
No Problem! If you think I saved your life then fill this out: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11TgMbGrlI1NKzvcP2noXD-KBquj0eXLvaHcZqS61Wlc/viewform jkjk u can if u want :P
