If he's at (1,6), that means he's 1 unit East (to the right) and 6 units North (up) from the center point (0,0).  

If the book is 5 units West, you have to move 5 units to the left of (1,6).  What is that point?

If the book is 5 units South, you have to move 5 units down from (1,6).  What is that point?
