follow principles of estimation to find an approximate value. round each number so that there is one nonzero digit do not find the exact value 64+31+50+42+74 260? thanks in advance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

265?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

Actual,Rounded 64,60 31,30 50,50 42,40 74,70 ____ 250 <- Sum of Rounded values Maybe you rounded up on one of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ybarrap ur right exept 74 is closer to 75 so the estimate should be 75 not 70

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you would get an estimate around 265

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

I was looking at "round each number so that there is one nonzero digit" so I used 70 to estimate 74 because then that would give me one nonzero digit after rounding

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah well if it wasnt then it would be 75 and ur total estimate should come to about 265

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya so total would be 260 or 250

thanks guys sorry for long response internet froze
