Which is not an integer? FAN AND MEDAL -3 0 3.0 -3.8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An integer is a number that can be written without a fractional or decimal component. For example, 21, 4, and −2048 are integers; 9.75, 5½, and √2 are not integers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, i still dont understand though...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH! B is my answerr. ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what binks is saying is that integers are basically whole numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, ok... but um, is B) my answer?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

is 0 a whole number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so 0 is an integer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i pick C) as my final answer now

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

3.0 is the same as 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, my jesus :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the .0 portion means there is no decimal portion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what the heck? _>_

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know anymore man :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you have already ruled out a few.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Think of integers are counting numbers (both positive and negative versions) So 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc are integers and so are the negative counterparts (-1, -2, -3, etc)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You can easily have 12 people in room for instance, but you cannot have 12.4 people in a room (you can't have 0.4 of a person)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Since 0.4 of a person is not a whole person

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm, so -3.8 ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay! thank you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I knew you would get it! @jim_thompson5910 are you a teacher?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
