What is the part of speech of the underlined word in the sentence? The timid mouse crept across the floor. A. preposition B. conjunction C. adverb D. adjective

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I am guess the underlined word is " across ". Words that are sometimes prepositions can act as adverbs. To tell the difference, a preposition requires an object and an adverb does not. This sentence, however, has an object, " floor ". Therefore, " across " is a preposition. If you are talking about another word, let me know and I will help.
