If the area of the circle below is 18 ft^2, what is the area of the shaded sector?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (ranga):

The shaded portion is exactly half of the area of the circle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pie*r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would that help me solve this problem

OpenStudy (ranga):

You don't need the formula for the circle area. They have provided you with the circle area already.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would i need to know to find the shaded portion

OpenStudy (ranga):

A full circle is 360 degrees. The picture shows the shaded area is 180 degrees. Therefore, the shaded area will be exactly half the area of the full circle. They have given you the area of the circle as 18 ft^2 So the shaded area will be 1/2 * 18 = ? ft^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 ft^2

OpenStudy (ranga):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much! :)

OpenStudy (ranga):

you are welcome.
