Find the distance between the points (1, 2) and (4, 3). Okay so Im using the formula (x^2-x^1)^2+(y^2-y1)^2 4^2-1^2+3^2-2^2 15+5=20 But I dont see the answer √7 √10 5√2

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

distance formula : sqrt [ (x2 - x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2 ]

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

(1, 2) and (4, 3) x1 y1 x2 y2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

sqrt[ (4-1)^2 + (3-2)^2 ] simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplify???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im supposed to simplify??

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't tell me to...

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

sqrt[ (4-1)^2 + (3-2)^2 ] sqrt[3^2 + 1^2 ] sqrt[ 9+1 ] sqrt(10)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

nobody tells u to simplify, u need to simplify to get to the answer :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wth

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No when it was explaining to me how to solve these problems it only told me to use the formula thats why im confused why you're simplifying you simplified 4 to 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did( 4^2-1^2)+(3^2-2^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wtf....

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're using the wrong formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dude im so confused

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

x2 is not same as x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I used that...

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, x2 is not same as x^2

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

(1, 2) and (4, 3) x1 y1 x2 y2

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

plug them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why did you simplify

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

latex+drawing is not working for me. come here : http://www.twiddla.com/1470080

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a similiar question but I have no idea what the hell im doing wrong!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

whats the question ? :)
