Choose the correct description of the graph of the compound inequality x - 2 > -4 and 3x less than or equal to 15 A number line with an open circle on -2, shading to the left, and a closed circle on 5, shading to the right. A number line with a closed circle on -2, shading to the left, and an open circle on 5, shading to the right. A number line with an open circle on -2, a closed circle on 5, and shading in between. A number line with a closed circle on -2, an open circle on 5, and shading in between.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you know how to solve the inequalities ?

OpenStudy (inhaleof):

compound inequalities confuse me

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

separate them to solve them.... do this one : x - 2 > 4 then do this one : 3x <= 15 do them separately and what do you get ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oops...x - 2 > -4

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I will do the first one, and you do the second one.. x - 2 > -4 -- add 2 to both sides x > -4 + 2 x > -2 now you do the other one

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you gonna try ?

OpenStudy (inhaleof):

alright i will. hold on

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

3x <= 15 -- divide both sides by 3 and what do you get ?

OpenStudy (inhaleof):

x<=5

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

so now we have : x > -2 and x <= 5 remember this... if there is no equal sign, it is an open circle if there is an equal sign, it is a closed circle < less then means shading to the left > greater then means shading to the right so what do you think the answer is ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

it can also be written like this.. -2 < x <= 5

OpenStudy (inhaleof):

the third one?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

correct :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

nice work :)

OpenStudy (inhaleof):

thanks (:
