im guessing projectile motion

y = Vit - 1/2 g t^2

V = Vi - gt

at max height this is 0
so
t = Vi/g

replacing this into the original
y = Vi^2/g - 1/2 Vi^2/g
y = (1/2)Vi^2/g

.... i think :)
