5a²w³(a²w^6−3a^4w²+9aw^6)
Do you know the laws of distribution?
5a^2w^3(a^2w^6)-5a^2w^3(3a^4w^2)+5a^2w^3(9aw^6) Sorry the equation thing isn't working for me.
i forgot how to spell it i think its fisl (first inter second last right)
and yes if thats how u write it out then thats the right equation u wrote
I think you're thinking of FOIL (first, outer inner, last)...but that's for something that looks like this: (x-2)(x-3). In this case, you want to go through for each individual term and start with the form that I provided for you in the previous post. Multiply the coefficients and add exponents. Let me know what you get and I'll tell you if it's right.
this is the first thing i got 5aw^5*aw^7
Ok so we are starting at this step. 5a^2w^3(a^2w^6)-5a^2w^3(3a^4w^2)+5a^2w^3(9aw^6) Let's break this up into 3 individual parts. a) 5a^2w^3(a^2w^6) b) -5a^2w^3(3a^4w^2) c) +5a^2w^3(9aw^6)
I'll do a) and then hopefully you will see what to do with b) and c). a) 5a^2w^3(a^2w^6) 5a^4w^9 This is because 5 is the coefficient, then we have a^2 * a^2 (when we multiply exponents, we are actually adding them) so it is a^4, and finally we have w^3 * w^6, which is w^9.
oooooohhhhhhh woooooowww im dumb
No, you are not. Sometimes math gets the best of us. Does it make sense now? Do you want me to check your work on the rest of this problem to make sure you have the hang of it?
yes
Ok just post back when you think you have it. Don't forget to put all 3 parts together
whats -5*3
i forgot
nvm
for this one what do i do+5a^2w^3(9aw^6) because it has a plus in front of the 5
for b i got -15a^8w^6
@Skip2mylou426 for c i got 14a³w^9
For b) you should've gotten -15a^6w^5. You did the coefficient correctly, but were supposed to add the numbers in the exponents rather than multiply them.
and this is what i got 5a^4w^9*-15a^6w^5+14a³w^9
i had changed it
For c) you would've had the correct answer but you need to multiply 5*9 for the coefficient rather than add them. So it should be 45a^3w^9. But you did the exponents correctly!
yes i got 45 but i thought it would be wrong so i add them
5a^4w^9*-15a^8w^6+45a³w^9
do i add them together
5a^4w^9*-15a^6w^5+45a³w^9. But do you understand that you need to multiply coefficients and add exponents?
And to answer your question, no you cannot add them because the terms do not have the same exponents.
but that will give me -75
Not for the whole thing, for the individual parts a), b) and c) are where you multiply to get coefficients and add to get exponents.
-30a^12w^24 is my final answer
You need to leave your final answer as 5a^4w^9-15a^6w^5+45a³w^9. You cannot add them together.
ok then i will
thx for the help
Do you understand why?
You're welcome
because it dosent have the same expoents
Good :)
