http://imgur.com/Qp8NzT8 Can anyone help? This is the last assignment of the semester and my grade depends on it, teetering at 59 percent. Please guys!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, what do you think you can do?

OpenStudy (kainui):

First off, what is domain and range? Tell us @cant_do_math and if you need help... well that's what we're here for! =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not all that sure how to do this, I skimmed over that part. I'm pretty sure the domain and range would be all real numbers, but I'm not positive.

OpenStudy (kainui):

What happens at x=-1?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Let's explore this and figure it out together, yeah?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, but I'm not sure what to do. You'll have to hold my hand and we can explore the unknown together.

As the direction Kainui was pointing you in, we have to understand our definitions first. In the equation 1/(x+1), substitute x = -1 and tell me what you get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not too sure, to be honest i blew through that. wouldn't x-1 just make it flipped?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nono, just remind yourself of basic algebraic equations. You have: 1/(x+1) Now let x = -1. In other words, in the equation 1/(x+1), remove the x and put a -1 there, then simplify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1/(1-1) would be a zero? sorry, I'm not sure what to do with that :(

OpenStudy (moongazer):

it will be 1/0
