Solve for x: -3(x + 3) = -3(x + 1) - 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute the values first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is no solution. is that a possible answer?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

use the distributive property to distribute -3 among the terms inside of the parenthesis. that will then exclude the parenthesis out, making it much easier to solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes @jbell0385. I tried every possible way to solve this and there was no way. That is one of the answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are u sure you wrote it write?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There is clearly no solution at first glance. Now, if that last value were "-6", instead of "-5", THEN we would have something interesting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the -3 and the -3 would cancel each other out...

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There is more to this story. Maybe another time. As written, there is no solution.
