A fraction is undefined when the denominator is 0 because you can't divide by 0. When is 1/(x+4) dividing by 0?
Provided that I'm reading your problem statement correctly, you have this equation: 1 1 1 ----- + --- = ------ x+4 2 x+4 Is this correct? If not, please fix it. Notice that you have identical terms ( 1 / [x+4] ) on both sides of the equation. If you were to cancel these, you'd end up with the equatino 1/2 = 0. Is this ever true?
