An 18” diagonal computer monitor is to be created that will have a height to width ratio of .75. what will its dimensions be?

OpenStudy (bibby):

I think this is what it looks like. you could use the Pythagorean theorem here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it tan^-1 (.75/18)=0.04 and tan^-1(.75/18)=1.53 as the final answer

OpenStudy (bibby):

this might be wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah i'm sorry you did say use the pyth. theroem

OpenStudy (bibby):

I did. we don't have actual values for the sides (hence the x) So we cant use tan etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah that makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i did mine like this...

OpenStudy (bibby):

it looks like it adds up to the diagonal. I think it's right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i'm not sure if i did mine correctly

OpenStudy (bibby):

remember that the sides are in a ratio. a:b is 0.75. They're both unknown so they're both x. a is 0.75x b is 1x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (bibby):

rofl I forgot to square 18. yeah you're right, sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha that's okay at least you went back to check it. thanks for the help.
