So, this question was asked during my class and I am still puzzled: Okay, so there is a bug traveling up a 30 foot vertical wall. It moves three meters up during the day and slips down two meters at night. How many days will the insect reach the top of the wall?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm trying to think of this logically, but i am not sure how to start.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH!!! I made a mistake!! That should say 3 ft and 2 ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not meters!!!

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

each day is plus 3 then minus 2 so 3 - 2 = 1 so the bug progresses 1 foot over the time of 1 day and 1 night

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then to get to 30 feet at the speed of 1 foot it should take 30 days

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, i thought that too, but the correct answer was 28 days.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

mmm on the 27th night it drops to 27 ft then on the 28th day it goes up 3 = 30ft...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh. i'll have to argue that one with the professor. but thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

glad I could help.
