ILL GIVE MEDALS: Can some one explain this paragraph to me?

OpenStudy (helpblahblahblah):

During the first part of this lesson, some of you might have created proportions of your own before we revealed the answers or examples. Did you notice that sometimes your proportion was different then ours and that you still came up with the correct solution? The idea is that the same type of comparison would be in the same ratio. For example, Tom is creating a map of his county. Green Road is 6 miles long. On his map, he shows that this road is 6 inches long. How long should he show Moore’s Road if it is really ten miles long? When we set up the proportion, we need to compare miles in one ratio and inches in the other. In each ratio, the units are the same.
