Hi can anyone help me please. A cage of mass 2 tonne is to be raised from the bottom of a mine shaft with a starting acceleration of 1.3-1.7 m/s2. The hoisting cable passed round a winding drum of mass 802-902 kg and a diameter of 1.2-1.6 m. Assuming that the mass of the winding drum can be taken to be concentrated at its outside radius and that friction is negligible on the drum but a constant frictional force of 801-901N act on the cage. (a) Calculate the total starting torque at the winding drum shaft. (b) When the inertia forces are overcome the cage travels at a constant velocity of 1.5 m/s, determine the workdone and the power required to lift the cage through a distance of 16m. Assume frictional forces remain the same.
I do not know why there are range of numbers so I have chosen easy ones to use and I have taken g = 10 m/s^2. There may be errors in my working? THe prblem solution is on the attached file.
