At a grocery store, the number of customers arriving per hour is shown by the function f(x) = 2x + 1. Find the number of customers that arrived in the 6th hour.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So by the 6th hour, your x=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That wasn't the whole answer, btw??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's your answer? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not sure how to get the answer acually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So f(x) is a function where x is the variable. In this scenario x is 6. Can you plug that into the function f(x) = 2x+1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(6)+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(6) = 2*6+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which then equals 13, which is the answer to how many customers that have arrived.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not so hard, eh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you multiply 6 by 2 then add 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not so bad thank you very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's right, there's a multiplication there that is left out when writing, that might make it unclear when it's new. It actually says f(x) = 2*x+1, and you just put in whatever x you want.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad I could help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much you really helped me out
