The hoisting cable passed round a winding drum of mass 802-902 kg and a diameter of 1.2-1.6 m. Assuming that the mass of the winding drum can be taken to be concentrated at its outside radius and that friction is negligible on the drum but a constant frictional force of 801-901N act on the cage. (a) Calculate the total starting torque at the winding drum shaft. (b) When the inertia forces are overcome the cage travels at a constant velocity of 1.5 m/s, determine the workdone and the power required to lift the cage through a distance of 16m. Assume frictional forces remain the same.
