Summary of Garrett Hardin's idea of the Tragedy of the Commons?
if too many people use something that isn't regulated, aka a commons, and overuse all of the resources, the area will suffer. a common example is of medieval England. many people would live in a village with a common pasture that was unregulated and the citizens would all put their sheep on it. however, over a period of time, more and more people would add their sheep to the pasture because it was unregulated. then, all of the grass would be eaten or die because of all of the sheep, then all of the sheep would die at the expense of the farmer. this example was used specifically by hardin in his essay of tragedy of the commons
it pretty much says that we need to regulate areas used by everyone (commons)
