Evan is making a table that will be created in the shape of the figure below. The table top is a triangle attached to a rectangle. To purchase the right amount of paint, he needs to know the area of the table top. He can only spend $10 on paint, which is enough to cover 150 ft2 of surface area. What is the maximum length of the base of the rectangle he can build? An image of a compound shape made up of a rectangle and a triangle is shown. The length of the rectangle is labeled x and the width is labeled 6 feet. The base of the triangle is labeled 4 feet and the height is labeled 6 feet. x = __________________ ft Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1: Question 2 (Fill-In-The-Blank Worth 1 points) A store offers a 15% discount on all items in the store during a sale. All store employees get an additional 10% employee discount. In the equation below, C represents the cost of an item for an employee including tax, and x represents the original price of the item. C = 0.765x + 0.06(0.765x) Chris is an employee at the store. He plans to buy a coat during the sale. The price of the coat before the discount is $100. How much will Chris pay for the coat during the sale? Remember, do not include the $ symbol. Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1: Question 3 (Fill-In-The-Blank Worth 2 points) The cost of coffee is determined by the type of coffee beans that are mixed together. The cost of a local mix of Arabica and Robusta beans is modeled by the equation below where A = the pounds of Arabica and R = pounds of Robusta. 700A + 1200R = 1,000,000 If a mixture contains 1000 pounds of Arabica beans, how many pounds of Robusta beans should be in the mixture? R = ________________ pounds Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1: Question 4 (Fill-In-The-Blank Worth 1 points) The sum of three consecutive integers is 267. What is the largest integer? Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1: Question 5 (Fill-In-The-Blank Worth 1 points) (02.02) Maya and Sally were the two finalists in a singing competition. The person with the most votes from the audience was chosen as the winner. Sally received 25% of the total votes and lost by 62,500 votes. No person in the audience was allowed to vote more than once. The equation below represents this situation, where y is the total number of votes cast and x is the number of votes Maya received. x - 62,500 = 0.25y If a total of 125,000 people voted, how many votes did Maya receive? Do not enter comma for placeholder values. Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1: Question 6 (Fill-In-The-Blank Worth 2 points) As the number of pages in a photo book increases, the price of the book also increases. There is an additional shipping charge of 15%. The price of a book can be modeled by the equation below where, P = the price of the book, 20 is the printing charge, 0.5 is the charge per page, and x = the number of pages. P = (20 + 0.5x) + 0.15(20 + 0.5x) Jennifer wants to purchase a book but only has $62.10 to spend. What is the maximum number of pages she can have in her book? x = ______________________ pages Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I told you if you guys want to do this

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

area of triangle = (1/2) base times height so = (1/2) (4) (6) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you guys don't want to do it its ok

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then 150 - (area of triangle) = area of rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 12 on the first one you said

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then area of rectangle = width times length so area of rectangle divided by width = length = x

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, then 150 - 12 =? then ? / 6 = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it equals 23 :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so thats the first one right

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok lets go to the next one

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then for the next one... C = 0.765x + 0.06(0.765x) plug in 100 for x so C = 0.765(100) + 0.06(0.765(100))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its it 81.09

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome thanks for the medal :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now the next one. :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

no problem :) now for the next ;) 700A + 1200R = 1,000,000 plug in 1000 for A so 700(1000) + 1200R = 1000000 solve for R

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 250

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

that's what I got ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol this is what I need everyday teamwork :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now the next one :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

lol now solve for x when given x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 267 then plug back into x + 2 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait is 267 on the question mark because thats the only number in the end and if it is the answer is x = 265

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

ermm I probably explained too quickly how about first solve for x x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 267

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so x + x its 2x + 1 + 1x + 2 = 267 then you put together 2x + 1x its 3x + 1 + 2 = 267 then after that add 1 + 2 its 3 so its 3x + 3 = 267 then 267 -3 its 265 then divide 265 by 3 and its x = 88. 3

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

267 -3 = 264

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops i mean divide -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i was calculating to fast

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

it's alright :) so x = 88 then what does x + 2 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 88

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

mmm if they were asking for the smallest of the three consecutive numbers then yes but they were asking for the largest of the three numbers which would be x + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yea I got confused right now

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

sorry, consecutive numbers work like x, (x+1), (x+2) like if x = 1 then it would be 1, 2, 3 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait wouldn't it be 2x + 3

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

mmm that might have been just the (x+1) + (x+2) part but you need the first (x) in there too :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok because my teacher said last year that if theres 2 x's withought no number you have to add them and it will turn into 2x

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes because an "x without a number" is like 1x but 1 times x is just x and 1x plus 1x = 2x

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well in anycase 88 + 2 = 90 <- tah-dah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry I left is that my internet there fixing it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok so the answer is 90

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yup :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow thanks sorry for leaving tho

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok the next one

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

The equation below represents this situation, where y is the total number of votes cast and x is the number of votes Maya received. x - 62,500 = 0.25y If a total of 125,000 people voted, how many votes did Maya receive? plug 125000 for y so x - 62500 = 0.25(125000) solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it -31,250

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = -31,250

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

not quite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops i did do something wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

93,750

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay I did the addition part wrong ok the next one lol:)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

The price of a book can be modeled by the equation below where, P = the price of the book, 20 is the printing charge, 0.5 is the charge per page, and x = the number of pages. P = (20 + 0.5x) + 0.15(20 + 0.5x) Jennifer wants to purchase a book but only has $62.10 to spend. What is the maximum number of pages she can have in her book? P = 62.10 so 62.1 = 20 + 0.5x + 0.15(20 + 0.5x) solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i cant explain it that good the answer

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my computer is acting up

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

62.1 = 20 + 0.5x + 0.15(20 + 0.5x) distribute 62.1 = 20 + 0.5x + 3 + 0.075x then add like terms 62.1 = 23 + 0.575x subtract 23 from both sides -23 -23 0.575x = 39.1 divide both sides by 0.575 /0.575 /0.575 x = 68

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well yea i got 61.2 is that right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are we on the 2nd to last question

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I think that was the last one :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I'm back sorry i was doing something so that was the last one

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

it's right :) and I think so :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think is not the last one and the answer is right

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

idk xD I'm too lazy to scroll that far

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o yea it is the last one wow thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i which i could give you millions of medals for helping me thank you alot

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

lol there is some thing I'm looking forward to if you would like to help :P https://docs.google.com/a/gapps.brrsd.k12.nj.us/forms/d/1gbJyuidaelKd6L9uwX68yWGdF5sSUKGGPSIW1EFH7To/viewform and Ambassador Recommendation :P I wanna officially work on this site, but I need recommendations :3 pwease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You welcome thank you for helpin me but wait what was the answer for the second to last

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

The equation below represents this situation, where y is the total number of votes cast and x is the number of votes Maya received. x - 62,500 = 0.25y If a total of 125,000 people voted, how many votes did Maya receive? plug 125000 for y so x - 62500 = 0.25(125000) solve for x

93,750

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks alot

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

you're welcome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can still help if you want ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow I think your gonna be a teacher

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I already now

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

lol I was thinking about it :P but I get easily pissed off in person XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

solve for x for both... |5x + 6| = 41 |2x + 13| = 28

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

they should both each have two answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the first one i got 7 and the second i got 7.5

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yeah yeah point was that they both had the same amount of answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what
