HELP! Checking my answers please? Just 3 questions... 1. How many complex roots does 2x^4 + 3x^3 - x^2 + 5 = 0 have? 2 3 4 <--- 5 2. Use the function to answer the question. f(x) = x^3 + 5x^2 + 7x + 3 = (x + 1)(x + 1)(x + 3) What is the multiplicity of the root 1? 1 2 <--- 3 4 4. How many real roots does x4 - x3 - 9x2 + 7x + 14 = 0 have? 1 2 3 4 <---

Are they correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. No real roots The curve never crosses the x axis Refer to the attached plot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry. The answers appear to be correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know...That's why I'm confused. There isn't an option for no roots. But wait...Aren't they asking for complex roots? That would be the degree of the coefficient right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about the others? Are they alright?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Frankly I don't know the rules. With a tool like Mathematica, one can simply plot the curve in a few millionths of a second. Notice in the attachment above, that the solutions are four imaginary numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Your answers are correct. Congratulations.

Um, ok thanks...
