OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Hi Mods and Ambies, I just read over this post http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/52e69307e4b096fa405a97ef I have an idea on what we should do here.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

I feel like we should have a World Language Section on here. For people who need help with ANY language. I feel like this would become a very popular section. Can we consider making it? :D

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

@e.mccormick @Compassionate @thomaster @jagatuba @Preetha @Mertsj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is a great idea

OpenStudy (squirrels):

I love you

OpenStudy (squirrels):

i mean good idea

OpenStudy (bibby):

That's too broad. I think language specific sections would be slower but more focused

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

But there's mainly 3 Languages spoken on here commonly. French German and Spanish

OpenStudy (squirrels):

i agree with becca, sorry bibs

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

I feel like making individual sections would just take up too much space. If we had one specific area it might be easier

OpenStudy (squirrels):

no bae, you know you are the cutest

OpenStudy (squirrels):

dang it bibs now i look weird

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree cuz well some languages we may not know others will and there would end up a problem like there is now with missing different languages

OpenStudy (squirrels):

Long paragraph going on here

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hi, The suggestion has been brought up several times. I agree that we should expand our language sections. We do, however, have a group for Language and Culture. This group can be used for any questions related to languages. There is an aspect I'd like to add in: we need sub-groups, like in mathematics, (i.g., German, French, Spanish.) as this would promote simplicity. In conclusion, the staff is well-aware of this and will get around to satisfying the needs of OpenStudy. - Compassionate

thomaster (thomaster):

Don't we already have a language section?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. This is great @beccaboo333 . I also think there should be a subject called "World Languages" and there could be sub-topics and as the sub-topics we can put like five or ten of the most popular languages. Although, we would have to like put the new subject somewhere where everybody can see it because it might be unpopular at first. But great idea. :3

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Only spanish from what ive seen

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

But would that really help with helping translate words

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or, like @Compassionate said, instead of making a whole new subject, we can add sub-topics to the Language And Cultures section. And for each sub-topic there will not only be help with speaking the language but also the culture, too. :3

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

^

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Well, yes, pretty much any question about languages can be asked there. Like I said, maybe we should add sub-groups to lessen the confusion. Also - if you're having trouble translation a word, might I suggest: Google.com http://translate.google.com/ Yahoo.com

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

google translate isnt always the best haha...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Google Translate, although it seems to be one of the most advanced free translators, it is not accurate enough.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only good for a word or short phrase, not a sentence or sentences.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

you could write something in spanish on there saying I'm a potato and it'd come out as potato me is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I use Google a lot for translating but i dont like it it doesnt always have a translation for words

OpenStudy (squirrels):

I believe that we should have a Language category for all languages. Why have more categories than we need?

OpenStudy (squirrels):

thomaster incase you disagree with me just know that i love you

thomaster (thomaster):

Alright, so a new section called "World Language" With subsections for every language, like: - Spanish - French - Arabic - Russian - German - Japanese - Chinese - Hindi - Urdu - Italian - Turkish - Portuguese - Greek - Latin - Dutch - Many more I can't think of right now I like the idea :P Let's see what @preetha has to say about this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I Love that idea

OpenStudy (squirrels):

I love you

OpenStudy (squirrels):

I mean i love that idea

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Hopefully @Preetha comes on soon to help discuss this topic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya hopefully

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, and the Chinese and Spanish section can be moved under the "Language and Cultures" section.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Why not both (taco commercial plays in background)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Good idea @thomaster as a french speaker this would be awesome.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

I think having a section like that with all the subsections would be very helpful. Especially with the users being from around the world.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yah that sounds great Becca

OpenStudy (preetha):

The problem is there are SOOOOOOOOOOOO many languages. Tabs would make it unwieldy. We really need a question specific tab...*thinking out loud* We'll work on it folks.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Thanks @Preetha

OpenStudy (mertsj):

@Preetha Any idea when the draw and equation functions will be fixed?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

@Mertsj , Soon.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Could you define "soon"?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I talked to CodeCracker via email about a week ago. He also made a post about two weeks ago. He said that he's well aware of the issue, and the tools should be fixed within the coming weeks. So, that was about a week ago - it'll be resolved in maybe 5 - 9 days.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Thank you very much.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

In my book: More topics = Bad Consolidated topics = good Consolidated topics allow for sub topics. Also, people fail to use sub topics, but they can be nice. I wish there were just a ranged of a few main topics. It would probably take about a dozen or two. Then have everything else be a sub of one of those main groups. It would be much easier to see everything that way.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

mhmm ^
