Figure JKLM is a trapezoid. Which statement must be true? Please Help I'll Fan and Medal!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm assuming you're given a list of statements, correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what statements are given to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

meaning answers?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, what are your possible answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me get them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Notice how there are right angle markers at angles J and M

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So these angles are 90 degrees. They add to 90+90 = 180 Because they are supplementary, this means that JK || ML. They are parallel by the converse of the same side interior angle theorem (which says that if two same side interior angles are supplementary, then the lines are parallel)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I kinda understood that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but not fully

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Where are you stuck?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Figuring out how to solve.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

here's a page that shows the theorem http://www.nhvweb.net/nhhs/math/mschuetz/files/2012/11/Section-3-2-2012-2013.pdf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I'm guessing D ?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Did you use the process of elimination? Or any other strategies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well... I kinda followed the link.. Could we do it step by step?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Sure, if you want.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That would help me better to understand it.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Okay. So tell me how you did it.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

That will help us see what parts you or I may have confusions with.
