WILL FAN AND MEDAL!! What is 3 and 3/8 + 1 and 4/5 Is it 9 and 14/40 or 9 and 7/20 (in simplest form)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Brolex, are you smart?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe..... not really....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yes.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. When you're adding fractions the denominator has to be the same. Right now it's not. So what's the least common multiple of 8 and 5?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

(3 + 3/8) + (1 + 4/5) 3 3/8 + 1 4/5 Find the least common denominator and then you should have it there. Any help, mention.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40... lets just cut to the cheese... I got 9 14/40 should I simplify it to 9 14/20??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's a hint. 5 will only have factors ending in 0 or 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it's 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But that's not what it simplifies in to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

stop stalling... should I simplify the fraction or not???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 14/20 can be divided by two. You only simplified the denominator. Make sure you also simplify the numerator. So try it again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant to write 7/14.... SHOULD I SIMPLIFY 9 14/40 OR NOT??? all I need to make sure is dat....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. If you can simplify a fraction you always have to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But that's right, 9 7/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean 7/20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank u that's all I needed to really know. I did the steps and everything... but just to make sure.. I came here.. thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye :P
