Not trading freely--> Intolerable acts+closing of boston harbor due to boston tea party
quartering troops--> troops were in warm houses and not protecting western frontier against native americans. they were also taking colonists' jobs

On May 28, Brad Austin passed by the British standing army at the mall. Not looking where he was going, Brad walked into one of the soldiers and knocked him down. The standing army immediately arrested Brad and took him to jail for assaulting a British officer. Brad tried to explain that it was a mistake. He showed the officer his call log on his cell phone to prove that he was talking on the phone and not paying attention to where he was walking, which led him to bump the soldier.

The judge has decided to hold the trial next month for these offenses. At his court hearing today, Brad repeatedly asked the judge for a jury trial. Judge Susan Elizabeth responded, “A jury trial is not a right. You assaulted an officer and must be held accountable.” After the interview, the judge was overheard telling friends that she knew that the king wanted to make sure that any violence on a British officer was punished to the fullest extent of the law. She also told her friend that she felt that the king would give her a pay raise if he was pleased with the outcome of the trial. Several supporters are planning a protest at the courthouse.

ummm. It would be very good for fiction, but it's historically inaccurate. Colonists were tasked with find shelter for soldiers and providing them with food, but they did not have to stay with the colonists if not desired. They would stay in uninhabited buildings or other places.

The stealing of valuables was a bit overkill, though.

Use the Stamp Act. For official documentation of any kind, they had to pay for "stamped paper" which had a special tax. If the contract was not written on stamped paper, it was not valid.
You could also use the Sugar Act.
Make it so that it is about someone who wakes up to the product increasing in value and becomes unable to pay for the product.
