Step One: Select two of the grievances from the list below. No trials by jury Not able to trade freely Unfair taxes Quartering troops in your home Not able to vote for government leaders Standing armies in your neighborhood Judges’ salaries and jobs at the will of the king
Step Two: Write a fictional newspaper story about how two of these events occurred today. Include a title for your story. Write at least one paragraph for each grievance you chose in Step One. You should have at least two paragraphs, one for each grievance, when you are finished. Pretend that the Declaration of Independence never occurred and that these are still problems in society today.
Elaborate on grievances please.
what do you mean like tell you about them?
I might be able to do Step 1, but not step 2 XD.
Oh well step 1 is easy you just choose any of the 2
Like, what do you mean by "Grievances"?
I have to choose any 2 from that list and make a fake newspaper about the 2 that i chose.
so if i chose unfair taxes i have to write a paragrpah about a situation that might of happened with unfair taxes
Ahh, I'd say go with, Not able to trade freely, and Quartering troops into your house.
okay thanks for that. Can you give me any ideas about what to write about with those?
No, sorry :D :P.
Not trading freely--> Intolerable acts+closing of boston harbor due to boston tea party quartering troops--> troops were in warm houses and not protecting western frontier against native americans. they were also taking colonists' jobs
yeah i know that but i have to make like a newpaper and have 1 parapgraph for each and it has to be like soemthing fake that happened that had to do with those 2 grievences
On May 28, Brad Austin passed by the British standing army at the mall. Not looking where he was going, Brad walked into one of the soldiers and knocked him down. The standing army immediately arrested Brad and took him to jail for assaulting a British officer. Brad tried to explain that it was a mistake. He showed the officer his call log on his cell phone to prove that he was talking on the phone and not paying attention to where he was walking, which led him to bump the soldier. Man in handcuffs before a judge © 2010 JupiterImages Corporation The judge has decided to hold the trial next month for these offenses. At his court hearing today, Brad repeatedly asked the judge for a jury trial. Judge Susan Elizabeth responded, “A jury trial is not a right. You assaulted an officer and must be held accountable.” After the interview, the judge was overheard telling friends that she knew that the king wanted to make sure that any violence on a British officer was punished to the fullest extent of the law. She also told her friend that she felt that the king would give her a pay raise if he was pleased with the outcome of the trial. Several supporters are planning a protest at the courthouse.
thats the example given
Write reactions to this, report what is happening and effects of the grievances. I pretty much gave you the effects of the Quartering act.
By the way, Quartering act was created so that british troops could monitor the colonists and not do anything against britain like the boston tea party.
wah i hate history.. this is hard for me becuase i dont know what to write about what happened i dont have a good imagination
Make up a colonist who is affected by the grievance, write about how it affect him/her, and write about how he/she feels.
did you get my message? @Grazes
ummm. It would be very good for fiction, but it's historically inaccurate. Colonists were tasked with find shelter for soldiers and providing them with food, but they did not have to stay with the colonists if not desired. They would stay in uninhabited buildings or other places.
@courtneyx3 I absolutely hate History too!
it is supposed to be fiction
I don't think the prompt means fiction in terms of historically inaccurate.
Anyway, I think it would be good for a newspaper to raise anti-British feeling so it's fine.
okay can you give me some ideas for unfair taxes
The stealing of valuables was a bit overkill, though.
Use the Stamp Act. For official documentation of any kind, they had to pay for "stamped paper" which had a special tax. If the contract was not written on stamped paper, it was not valid. You could also use the Sugar Act. Make it so that it is about someone who wakes up to the product increasing in value and becomes unable to pay for the product.
okay i finished the two paragrahs will you help me come up with titles for them and then im all done? @Grazes
@HelpNeededLol help me come up with titles!!!!
how about "Rude awakening"
@courtneyx3 Hmm, "Rude awakening" pretty good! Have fun with your project i'm signing off for the night!
