Linear Equations-Please explain

OpenStudy (davidusa):

Linear equations are equations that describe a line. There are 2 variables in a linear equation- x and y. If you plug in a value for one of them, you will get the other variable, and then you would have a point on the line. For example, y=2x+1 is a linear equation. if you plug in 1 as x. You get y=2+1 and y=3. If you plug in y as 3, you get 3=2x+1 and get x=1.
