The data set shows the high temperatures during a week in August. Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 103 101 99 100 89 99 98 When calculating the average high temperature for the week, Mrs. Ortiz said that Thursday's data should be excluded because a cold front moved through that day. Evaluate this claim by selecting the statement that best reflects why the reasoning is either correct or flawed.
The reasoning is flawed. Even though Thursday's temperature is an outlier, it occurred during that week and there is no reason to exclude it. The reasoning is flawed. Thursday's temperature is not an outlier. The reasoning is correct. Thursday's temperature is an outlier, and excluding it will lower the mean. The reasoning is correct. Thursday's temperature is not an outlier, but it should be excluded because it was the coolest day of the week.

EIther the first one of the third one, since it is an outlier.
I'm not sure why you would exclude data just because it is an outlier though.
you definitely don't throw away data, unless you know it is bogus (the thermometer was broken, for example).
you might call it an "outlier", but that should not matter.
I dunno this is just the question...
Can you please help?
Do you understand what choices could be the answer (and which choices are not) ?
I think it is C.
I guess you missed my point you definitely don't throw away data, unless you know it is bogus (the thermometer was broken, for example).
Mrs. Ortiz said data should be excluded <-- no! you don't toss out data
exclude is a fancy word for throw away that data. we don't do that.
so its the first one ok i understand.
An outlier is a number that is "far" from the average. 89 looks "far" from the average of the other numbers.... but it does not matter... we keep it.
Was this one 'a'?
I would believe so @TTP Goodluck on that on eh mate?
Thanks :) @undeadknight26
