The price of an item is reduced by 30% of its original price. A week later it is reduced by 20% of the reduced price. The cashier informs you that there has been a total reduction of 23%. Is the cashier using percentages correctly? If not, what is the actual percent reduction from the original price?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be 30% plus 20% to add up the total reduction together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be 30% + 20%. So, 30% + 20% = 50%!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what i mean is would you have to multiply the original price or do you add explain the process a little better unless thats the whole question then without a doubt its 50%
