What is the length of the side of an equilateral triangle inscribed in a circle at radius 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would have to be 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jonnymiller The answer here is 5 sqrt 3 ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

duh sorry lapse in judgement...its easrly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k yeah....you have to set it up with trig...so break the equallateral triangle up in to a right triangle with one side equal to the radius. then use the tangent function to solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

knowing that the angles in a equallateral triangle are 60 or pi/3 rad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you get tan(60)=x/5 then solve for x

@jonnymiller Thank you! :)
