In the triangle below find x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just look where it says "x". There's your x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the x looks like about 50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need an actual decimal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also need to find y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@him1618 do you know?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

You would use trig...you have an angle (47) and you have a side (adjacent to the angle) and you need the other side (opposite the angle)....what trigonometric function deals with adjacent and opposite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tan right...?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right...Tan = Opposite/Adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan (47) = x/35

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So you would have Tan47 = x/35 And solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 37.45?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah 37.53

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont really get how to get y. I feel like the answer I got is wrong. 0.0194

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Because what is written above is wrong....it should be y = 35/cos47

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35/y = cos(47)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it 51.31?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bingo!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

That would be correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okie. thanks guys. I don't know who to give a medal to because you both helped haha.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

lol doesn't matter...just glad to help :)
