i dont understand what to do on a problem where the instructions say "use the graph of its related function to write the solutions to each inequality"

Usually you have a region of interest in a chart with x and y axis. The region might be highlighted. If you have a function that separates the highlighted region from the other region, then the boundary of separation is important. It might be linear like y > 3x + 4, where the shaded region will be all the values of y that are above the line y = 3x + 4. Notice I have equals here. This is just to form the boundary.
