OpenStudy (lucaz):

how do I find the amplitude and period of this tangent function?

OpenStudy (lucaz):

OpenStudy (lucaz):

any hint?

OpenStudy (loser66):

to tangent function: no amplitude period: take difference between 2 x-intercept points

OpenStudy (lucaz):

period is pi/4?

OpenStudy (loser66):

pi/2

OpenStudy (lucaz):

right, it was 4/8..

OpenStudy (loser66):

:)

OpenStudy (lucaz):

and the amplitude, the form of the function is Atan(Bx)+C if there is no amplitude what do I do? to find A?

OpenStudy (loser66):

NO amplitude for any tangent function. period

OpenStudy (lucaz):

just remove A from the function?

OpenStudy (loser66):

I don't get what you mean by finding A.

OpenStudy (lucaz):

well, that's what the problem says, function of tangent is in the form Atan(Bx)+C

OpenStudy (lucaz):

you say no amplitude because it's infinite?

OpenStudy (loser66):

to any question about the amplitude of tangent function, the answer is : no amplitude.

OpenStudy (lucaz):

i think it's the case of -1, to flip the graph?

OpenStudy (loser66):

what do you mean by "flip" the graph? when you "lie" it down, you have arctan , which is another topic.!!!

OpenStudy (lucaz):

like the graph of sin(x) and -sin(x)

OpenStudy (loser66):

oh NO!! - sin (x) is image of sinx through x-axis, or reflecting of sinx through x-axis, Moreover, sin/ cos has amplitude, when tangent doesn't

OpenStudy (lucaz):

right..

OpenStudy (lucaz):

I will try to solve the problem, thanks!
