Find all angles theta for which tan (theta)= sqrt(3) ? I need help understanding why the answer is pi/3 +kpi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

weird i would think it would be at 60-240 or pi/3-4pi/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops it was pi/3 +kpi , I guess K is just a constant but how I would get to my answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because tangent is sqrt3 at 60 degrees. 60 degrees is pi/3. you get this by looking at the unit circle if you dont have it memorized. you see the y and x value at 60 degrees. and put the y over the x and do math. of course thats a vague explanation since i assumed you covered this in lecture? do you need more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I see where you get the pi/3 and yes the unit circle is very familiar, I guess I just don't understand why it would be "+ kpi" also

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the period of tan(x) is pi

Oh okay this makes sense thank you both !!!
