d=ut+0.5at² how do I solve for a?

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

So subtract ut from both sides first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so I would take the 0.5at² and subtract ut from it. so my answer would be just the 0.5at²??

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Yes.. on the right side though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

How to isolate a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea. I cant figure out how to do it though. I got four other problems I got to do lik this and im stuck on how to figure it out.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

From where I stopped a can be isolated by dividing both sides by 0.5t²

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea. That's as far as I can get. but how is that the answer to a?

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you.! (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help with one more really fast.??

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Really fast? the speed depends on you actually.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea I know. sorry. not the brightest crayon in the box.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Not that, If I zoom quickly, you won't learn anything. I'm here to help you learn something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha yea (: thanks for helping though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so this equation is d=0.5gt². d=490ft. and t=10sec. so the equation would be 490ft=0.5g(10sec)² right.?

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so would I then have to take 10x10 or would I have to multiply 10x0.5g?

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

10 squared is 100.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

So 100*0.5g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and then the answer to that is 50.0 so it would be 490ft.=50g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then I would have to divide both sides by 50 and the answer would be g=9.8

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. thanks for helping :)

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Welcome.
