OpenStudy (anonymous):

A fish that normally lives in salty water is placed in a tank containing fresh water. What do you think will happen to the cells of the fish?

OpenStudy (petiteme):

Salt water fish actually drink the salt water, excrete the salt, and are left with unsalted water in their body. Sea water draws out water from their body (through osmosis)

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Yup. And this is I believe because their cells have a higher concentration of solute to adapt to living in salt water. Welcome to OpenStudy.
