You are traveling on an airplane. The velocity of the plane with respect to the air is 110 m/s due east. The velocity of the air with respect to the ground is 42 m/s at an angle of 30° west of due north. What is the heading of the plane with respect to the ground? (Let 0° represent due north, 90° represents due east). How far east will the plane travel in 1 hour?

OpenStudy (roadjester):

North and east are perpendicular. So if the air is 30 degrees west of north, then the plane is 30 degrees north of east. Basically the plane, according to your directions is going at an angle of 60 degrees. The plane is going at 110 m/s. So if you convert 1hour to seconds, then distance =rate * time.
