alkane reacting with bromine water is an example of substitution reacttion... as alkanes are made up of single bonds only therefore they need to remove something from them to gain something as a result they loose one of their H atom each time they react eg CH3-CH3 I is the general formula for ethane... and it reacts with Br2 to form CH3-CH2Br+ HBr |dw:1391160231269:dw|
